PARISH PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: We pray for the Church. May all Christians rejoice in God's loving invitation and be ready to extend welcome to others, especially those who are excluded or marginalised
Lord in your mercy…..
(CAFOD weekly prayers of intercession)
THE POPE’S INTENTION FOR OCTOBER: For Mental Health Ministry
Let us pray that the mental health ministry be established throughout the Church, helping to overcome the stigma and discrimination of persons with mental illnesses.
LIVE SIMPLY OCTOBER: Pope Leo's encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, reminds us that every person is a wonder, created in the image of God, let's put our phones down and make time for face-to-face conversations. Let's use AI responsibly, only when it is genuinely helpful and reduce our digital storage by deleting old emails, WhatsApps and unwanted photos.
NOTICES:
We welcome Fr Darren Reid to celebrate our Mass this Sunday.
HARRY ELKINGTON RIP:
It is with great sadness that we learned of the sudden death of Harry on Monday 21st September. A long standing member of the parish Harry will be particularly missed at Blessed William Richardson Church where he attended Mass weekly. The funeral service is to take place on 19th October at St Joseph’s at 11:45 followed by Cremation at Brimmington where Harry originated from. Please keep Barbara and the family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Rest now Harry in the peace of Christ.
RETIRING COLLECTIONS:
There is a retiring collection after Masses 10th/11th October for PACT (prison Advice and Care Trust) which supports prisoners, people with convictions, and their families
And
17/18th October for World Mission Sunday.
CLOTHES COLLECTION:
There will be a collection of pre-loved good condition clothes for the Clothing Bank throughout October and November. Please bring them to Church or drop them off at Chris Parrott's house (tel no 07917542303). The Clothing Bank is a charity that provides parcels of clothes for people who can't afford to buy them. Without decent clothes, people can't go for job interviews, children miss school, and older people stay at home and become isolated and lonely. Your donations will transform lives!
THE QURAN AND SCIENCE:
Dr Chris Hewer has a background in Christian Theology, Islamic Studies and Christian Muslim relations. He will be talking about The Quran and Science at The Unity Centre, St Leonad’s Road, Rotherham on 21st October. Time: 4pm for a 4.15 start followed by a halal Pakistani meal at 6.30. (Vegetarian food also available) To book please contact Raja Khan onWhats app: 07913836053. A minimum £5 entry donation is required.
DONATE!:
If you have any unused spectacles and sunglasses don’t leave them lying about in a drawer! Bring them to St Joseph’s and Blessed William Richardson where they will be sent off for redistribution or recycling. It doesn’t matter how old they are or what state. Collection boxes are available in both churches.
ECUMENICAL MEETING:
The next meeting of the Kiveton and local churches is being held at Wales Methodist Chapel on October 14th at 7pm. All welcome.
DO YOU HAVE ANY UNWANTED FURNITURE?
The St Vincent de Paul Furniture Store on Queens Road, Sheffield, collects and then redistributes unwanted furniture and household items without charge to people who are disadvantaged because of poverty, deprivation and other circumstances. If you have any items to donate or wish to make a cash donation to support our work, please phone 0114 270 3990 between 9.00am and 3.00pm or visit www.svp.org.uk/sheffield-furniture-store.
THE HALLAM BRIDGE:
Please see the latest issue of the Hallam Bridge on our parish website. You can also subscribe to receive Hallam Bridge to your own in box using this link https://hallam-diocese.com/bridge/ and you will receive it as soon as it is released.
DIGITAL GIVING:
Hopefully you have seen the credit card reader which has recently been installed at the back of St Joseph’s church. Sadly there was a small deficit last year in our parish funds and therefore it needs to be as easy as possible for parishioners to contribute to our parish.
There are now two new ways of cashless giving
1. It’s very easy to use the card reader at the back of church, clear instructions are
with the machine,
OR
2. You can use the QR code in church and on the website, just scan the code and
follow the simple instructions
