THE POPE’S INTENTION FOR  SEPTEMBER: For the care of water

Let us pray for a just and sustainable management of water, a vital resource, so that everyone may have equal access to it.


LIVE SIMPLY SEPTEMBER:   September is the Season of Creation, we are called to be a river of transformation here in our own community. 

Some ways to respond are:-  Spend some time praying near water. Plant a tree. Support  a water charity.  Commit to reducing single-use plastics that clog our waterways.  Support the local foodbank. Campaign for clean water.

RETIRING COLLECTION:

There will be retiring collections after Masses this weekend of 19/20th September  for Home Mision Sunday.


FIRST HOLY COMMUNION:

The Holy Communion programme for 2026-27 will begin on 4th October, after 9.30 mass , in Saint Joseph's church, at 10.45. The introduction for parents will be on 27th September, after mass at 10.45. The catechists leading the programme are Nuala Nelis and Mary Gillgrass.


EVENTS AT ST. BERNARD’S

Open Evening:

On Wednesday 23rd September, St Bernard's are hosting their Y6 Open evening from 4-6pm Mr Riding the headteacher will be leading a presentation at 4pmand 5ppm in the main hall. During the rest of the afternoon there is an opportunity to tour the school and meet the wonderful students and staff. 

Lourdes Reunion:

The Hallam Lourdes reunion takes place at St Bernard's Catholic High School on Saturday 26th September beginning with Mass at 12:30.There will be a buffet lunch, tombola, raffle and handmade cards for sale. All welcome.


SVP NATIONAL PRISONS MEETING:

Come and see how the SVP are taking the Gospel Message to prisoners and their families.  St Michael and the Angels Catholic Church, Wombwell  Barnsley. S73 0HQ  10th October 2026, 10am - 4pm,  packed lunch needed but tea and coffee are provided.  All Wellcome.

DIOCESE OF HALLAM WOMEN TOGETHER IN HALLAM OCTOBER GATHERING:

Women's Ministry in Hallam - What's Going On?

The gathering is a chance for women to come together, share experiences, celebrate the many ways they already serve in our parishes, and encourage one another. We would love to see women from as many parishes as possible.

Date: Saturday 10 October 2026 at  Hallam Pastoral Centre, St Charles Street Sheffield, S9 3WU

Soup lunch: 12.00 pm.  Suggested donation: £5, although no one should be prevented from attending because of cost.

Gathering begins: 12.30 pm

Finish: Approximately 2.30 pm

GUEST SPEAKERS: Shauna Hilton, along with two other parishioners, will share about the many years they have spent in their parish leading various groups and ministries, Their experience will help us discover and celebrate the many ways women contribute to the life of the Church.

DIOCESE OF HALLAM - Choral Director – Full Time

Contract: Permanent subject to satisfactory probation period

Based: Remotely at participating NSSP schools and parishes

Starting: November 2026 (negotiable)

The Diocese of Hallam is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and appropriately qualified

Choral Director who, working closely with the Lead Diocesan Choral Director, will be

responsible for working within local Catholic schools to implement and develop the

National Schools Singing Programme (NSSP).

The Choral Director will work within schools Catholic primary schools and will be

responsible for the development of choral singing in those schools, nurturing

potential in the diverse communities those schools are located in. The core work of

the Choral Director takes place during the school day in the diocesan primary schools,

although children in the NSSP with a particular interest in singing will be encouraged

to take part in after-school choirs and Sunday Masses and services.

The Diocese of Hallam constitutes South Yorkshire as well as areas of Northeast

Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire. Some travel in the Diocese will therefore be

required and applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have use of a car.

DIGITAL GIVING:

Hopefully you have seen the credit card reader which has recently been installed at the back of St Joseph’s church. Sadly there was a small deficit last year in our parish funds and therefore it needs to be as easy as possible for parishioners to contribute to our parish.

There are now two new ways of cashless giving

      1.    It’s very easy to use the card reader at the back of church, clear instructions are

          with the machine,  

OR

      2.    You can use the QR code in church and on the website, just scan the code and

           follow the simple instructions
