LIVING WATER - The Season of Creation

The theme for the Season of Creation this year is inspired by in an incredible vision from the Book of Ezekiel (47:9, 12). The prophet Ezekiel was writing during a time of immense grief—his people were in exile, and the Temple had been destroyed. Yet, in the midst of that despair, God gave him a vision of a new Temple.

From the doors of its sanctuary, a tiny trickle of water begins to flow. It grows deeper and wider until it becomes an unstoppable river. But this isn't just any river; it flows into the stagnant, lifeless waters of the Dead Sea and heals them too. Wherever this river goes, swarms of living creatures thrive, and fruit trees grow on its banks, bearing fruit every single month.

What does this mean for us today?

Ezekiel’s vision reminds us that God's love doesn't just stay inside the walls of our church. It flows outward to heal the broken, barren, and hurting places in our world. And God invites us to step into that river and become part of the healing.

Why Our World Needs Healing Now

While Ezekiel saw water bringing life, today we face a reality where water is often a source of crisis. Millions of people still do not have access to clean drinking water. Rivers, lakes and oceans are polluted. Climate change is bringing droughts and floods, threatening communities, wildlife and future generations.

As people of faith, we cannot look away. Care for creation isn't just an "extra" activity; it is a direct consequence of our restored relationship with God. When we protect water and the life it sustains, we are loving our neighbours and honouring our Creator.

Around the world, churches and communities are restoring rivers, protecting habitats, planting trees, reducing pollution and bringing clean water to villages and schools. These signs of hope remind us that, with God's help, change is possible.

Stepping into the Water: How We Can Act

We are called to be a river of transformation here in our own community. Some ways to respond:-

·      Praying with Creation: Spend some time praying near water—whether that’s a local river, a lake, or even your garden birdbath. Let it remind you of y our baptism and God's cleansing grace.

·      Planting for the Future: Trees are nature's healers. They clean our air, cool our towns, and absorb pollution. Let tree growing become an integral part of our spiritual lives and plant trees for baptisms, confirmations, memorials, birthdays, anniversaries or simply as acts of hope.

·       Giving back: Support charities that provide clean water and sanitation to communities around the world.

  • Protecting the "Blue Lung": Let’s commit to reducing single-use plastics that clog our waterways. At home, check for leaks, use water mindfully, and consider eco-friendly cleaning products that won't pollute our local streams.

  • Growing and Sharing: Ezekiel saw trees bearing fruit every month. We can mirror this by supporting our local food banks, advocating for fair food policies.

·       Campaigning : for clean water, an end to sewage pollution of our rivers and oceans, holding  agricultural and industrial polluters accountable

A Prayer for the Season of Creation

Creator God, You are the source of Living Water, flowing with mercy, renewal, and hope. In this Season of Creation, open our hearts to be refreshed by your grace. Where the earth is dry, bring restoration. Where communities thirst, bring justice. Where creation groans, bring healing. Immerse us in Your river of life, that we may become channels of Your love to our neighbours, our world, and all living beings. May Your Living Water flow through us and make all things new. Amen.

Let Us Step Into the Water Together

May this Season of Creation be a time of renewal for our parish — a time to rediscover God’s healing presence, to celebrate the beauty of creation, and to join the great river of life that flows from God’s heart into the world.

Let us step into the water without fear, trusting that God’s love will carry us, renew us, and empower us to bring hope to others.
