Reflection – Moving Forward as a Parish
The group discussed the role of the laity in supporting our PP, through present ministry and needs for the future. The grouppraised and appreciated all the gifts and talents the parish displays already, such as the Support Group and Bereavement Group and the excellent teams for Eucharistic ministry, cleaning etc. It was decided that a further meeting was needed to discuss in more detail the needs going forward and how to make all ministry more efficient and effective in order to strengthen our abilities while supporting the needs of our PP.
Lenten Meetings – the meetings between the churches in Dinnington will begin on 23rd Feb 2026 with the theme being Prayer. All meetings meet at 6.30 for refreshments with the session beginning at 7pm for an hour.
23 Feb – St Leonard’s
2nd March – St Joseph’s
9th March – The Bridge
16th March – Salvation Army
23rd March - Methodist church
AMC offered to lead the meeting at St Joseph’s with AN and KS and Judith Sherrat supporting.
Newsletter – MC brought newsletters from Woodsetts with the suggestion of having a twice yearly newsletter for the parish with essential and seasonal information for all. Cost would be approx £130 for 1000. Would be needed for BWR also. Group was in favour of this.
Health & Safety – issue was raised about chairs being placed in the aisles when church is busy. Reminder that doors and exits need to be free (which they were). Idea of marshals being needed when church is at capacity and the question was asked, what is the capacity of church? How should we monitor and move people either into the parish rooms or deny them entry if capacity is reached?
Church was left unlocked after mass when everyone thought someone else was locking up. How can we ensure that there are at least two people who will be responsible each week? The discussion was people from the reflection group checking before leaving that this was covered by someone.
The online Safety Toolbox has risk assessments connected to fire and exits. Tony Carroll and MM will check on this.
Maintenance – KS received quote for decorating the presbytery. £4000k to decorate lounge, hall, stairs and landing including stripping and repapering the hall, repairing the lounge ceiling and walls in the hall before emulsion on walls and ceiling. Gloss work includes 9 doors and stair case. New carpet for lounge. Thank you Kay!
A repair to the church’s flat roof and window is needed.
There is a damp issue at BWR.
AB asked whether we needed a sign in the car park to remind drivers that vehicles are left at their own risk. Since the meeting KS has purchased signs and will have them put up in the car park. We thank her for her efforts.
Finance - The closing balances for January 2026 are as follows -
St Josephs Church £16,610.02 cr
St Josephs Action Fund £2540.73 cr. which includes £400 held on behalf of the Lourdes Fund
Fundraising – AB will organise an Easter Egg raffle again. KS suggested involving school in a social gathering at some point by asking to use their premises.
Safeguarding – AMC raised a point for Nuala Nelisconcerning our Confirmation candidates and whether it was acceptable to have their pictures and names displayed in church. SH said with parent agreement this was satisfactory.
A Divine Calling – ML brought our attention to www.rootandbranchsynod.org which has a number on online talks. A Divine Calling with Soline Humbert and Dr Mary McAleese is a talk about Soline’s call to the Roman Catholic priesthood and her journey in this.
This is an online meeting on Thursday 12th Feb at 8-9.30pm. The website is worth a look.
Next meeting - 4th March at 7pm
