Reflection
The group welcomed Charlie Shelton, the new acting headteacher of St Joseph’s school, and Adele Brockbank, Teaching Assistant and chaplain for the school.
CS outlined his vision for the school – bringing back joy, laughter and a feeling of safety and well being for both staff and children. He has put many things in place to nurture the Catholic ethos of St Joseph’s and he and Adele have created a liturgical year so that all feasts and important events will be celebrated as they should be. The school has had a new influx of children and at the recent school picnic, there were many parents enjoying this time with their children. There is a weekly newsletter which will be sent to the Parish as well and we discussed updating the website area dedicated to the school. There are also brochures and Nursery leaflets and a new Facebook page.
We have invited CS to speak at Mass in Kiveton on 13thSeptember and St Joseph’s 14th September to re/introduce himself to the Parish and share his vision. He has stated that the Parish may use school buildings/grounds where possible, if such a thing was needed.
The Summer Fayre is next Wednesday (16th July) from 2.30 until 4pm and any donations of bottles would be very welcome. All the parish is invited and this will be put in the bulletin.
Leavers’ Mass is 14th at 9.15
There is an aim for children’s work to be displayed in church from September onwards.
We thank Charlie for his enthusiasm and his openness in sharing his vision. The group is absolutely delighted and look forward to working with him and the school again.
Fr Andy’s future plan – all sorted. There was concern for Fr Andy’s health and his wish to continue working.
Roche Abbey excellent feedback. Very spiritual with celebrations by the Bishop: Confirmations and a 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Jubilee – CP and MC are organising a pilgrimage to Whitby for Spring next year. Details to follow in due course
Finance & Maintenance MM has sent his apologies so this will be forwarded to the next agenda. Stained glass window repaired and outside ledge done. Thank you AN for organising this.
AMB has asked for consideration to be taken regarding the carpet in the little chapel. MC stated there was mould on the ceiling in the Sacristy. MM to be informed.
Live Simply -CP gave feedback on the Covenant with the Poor which has been highly successful and inclusive. We thank her especially for all her dedication and hard work – and also those who were also involved.
CP wishes to show ‘Ocean’ by David Attenborough for the Parish in September. This links with a new venture to protect the oceans, going forward.
The Season of Creation Mass will be round about this time also.
TV – Pat Steele has offered the Parish a TV in good working order. The group gives thanks but has declined the kind offer.
National Pilgrimage – JC told us of a cycling pilgrimage from Doncaster to Walsingham from Wed 23rd – Sat 26th July. He has asked for prayer petitions to take with him. This is already in the bulletin for nearer the time. Paper and envelopes will be provided. The idea of passing these round during Mass was mentioned. JC asked for small donations only due to the amount of giving recently asked from parishioners. Creating a Just Giving page was mentioned.
Safeguarding – AMB has offered to take up this role alongside SH. SH reminded the group about taking photographs at any church events and making sure to have permission.
National Day of Prayer on September 10th at St Teresa’s in Sheffield at 7pm – to pray for all victims of abuse.
100 Club – KS has offered to take on this role alongside/instead of KM. KS says a licence in needed and the group agreed.
Support Group – as Judith Sherratt is not very well, meetings will now be every 3 months. Members will take on the responsibility of informing when they are going to visits and when they have been.
Agenda – do we wish to put the Reflection Group’s agenda on the Parish WhatsApp? It was agreed we should after it has been checked by members.
Parish Picnic – Saturday 27th September 2025. CS said we could use the school building or fields if we needed to do so.
Carol Concert – CP asked whether a band could be hired where their proceeds and ours could be shared. It was also mentioned that the Church Choir might reform for Christmas.
Next meeting – 3rd September 2025 at 7pm.
