ANNUAL CATHOLIC UNION SUMMER GATHERING:
We are delighted to invite you to the Catholic Union’s annual Summer Gathering at Buckfast Abbey on Saturday 11 July.
The day will include an introduction given by Rt Rev Nicholas Hudson, Bishop of Plymouth and Ecclesiastical Adviser to the Catholic Union, and Mass in the Abbey. We are also very fortunate to have the opportunity of a talk by Abbot David Charlesworth OSB and we will hear from a Catholic member of the House of Lords.
The Summer Gathering is an opportunity for members and their guests to come together in convivial surroundings at a place of special interest and devotion. The day will close at 4.00pm when we will be able to enjoy the ever popular Fauré Requiem in the Abbey sung by the Choristers.
Once again, we have managed to keep the price low at £30 per person and are immensely grateful for the generous sponsorship by one of our Benefactors. This includes lunch and refreshments. St Thomas More Circle Associates, Supporters, Benefactors and Patrons are entitled to one complimentary ticket, but are still required to register. VOICES OF DESPAIR, VOICES OF HOPE:
Many parishioners will be aware of the long campaign to get the Leader of Rotherham Council (RMBC) to tell the truth about the publication Voices of Despair Voices of Hope and about the damage done by RMBC to Swinton Lock Activity Centre - parishioners raised about £20,000 to help Swinton Lock.
Up to a year go RMBC admitted to spending £76,000 defending the Council on external legal fees in Tribunal cases. T, an adult survivor of terrible abuse has talked at St Joseph's in the past and has been a witness in recent Tribunal Hearings. If you are prepared to help T by sending a question in (by post or email) for the Council Meeting on 20 May, please let Liam Harron know (many parishioners have Liam's email address and/or telephone number). You don't have to attend the Council meeting and if you don't you will get a written answer to your question.
OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE RELIC:
On Saturday 6th June. Our Lady of Guadalupe Relic is visiting the Mother of God Church, Abbeydale Road. The day begins at 10 am with Holy Mass. This Relic has been declared as an Authorised Relic that extends the graces of evangelisation, conversion and truth to those who receive it.
Following Holy Mass and veneration of Our Lady of Guadalupe Relic, there will be a Rethink Abortion Day led by the March for Life team in the Parish Centre. The team will lead a series of engaging, inspiring and informative sessions aimed at motivating and equipping us to articulate our pro life beliefs. The booking fee for this event is being subsidised by the group. Please bring your own packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided. Bishop Marcus, at the request of Pope Leo, has issued a consultation regarding the future development of the Diocese. Please see the seperate item on the website to view his letter and the consultation document.
XAVERIAN ANNUAL APPEAL 2026:
Throughout the year 2026, all parishes within the Diocese of Hallam have been called upon to participate in supporting the Xaverian Annual Mission Appeal. This initiative offers parish communities an opportunity to engage with the charitable work carried out by the Xaverian Missionaries, and to learn more about their mission and outreach. The appeals will take place on Saturday, 25th April: 6.00pm Mass at Blessed William Richardson and Sunday, 26th April: 9.30am Mass at St Joseph's.
LENTEN GROUPS:
The Dinnington group. is continuing to meet after Easter on Monday. The final meeting is on 27th April at St. Leonard’s Church 6.30pm for a 7 o’clock start.
SERVICE OF PRAYER AND REFLECTION FOR SURVIVORS OF ABUSE:
Join the Diocese of Hallam as and with survivors of abuse at our annual service of prayer and reflection to be held on Tuesday 5th May at 7pm in the Church of The Holy Spirit, 2 Stonelow Road, Dronfield, S18 2EP. Refreshments will be served after the service.
CARMEL CARE:
The Carmel Care Centres are to celebrate their 40th anniversary. The celebration and blessing will take place at the centre on Wednesday 3rd June starting at 12 noon with a buffet lunch, music and more. The address is 172 Dykes Hall Road, Sheffield, S64GS

YOUTH MINISTRY GAP YEAR OPPORTUNITY:
Do you know anyone aged 18-25 who is looking for a new challenge? The Diocese of Lancaster has a Youth Ministry team based in Keswick in the Lake District. They run retreats at Castlerigg Manor and also work in Churches and schools around the area. The ‘Youth Ministry Internship’ scheme comes with high quality training, experience, and recognised qualifications and gives young people the chance to join a welcoming community and a vibrant team doing some amazing work.

DIGITAL GIVING:
Hopefully you have seen the credit card reader which has recently been installed at the back of St Joseph’s church. Sadly there was a small deficit last year in our parish funds and therefore it needs to be as easy as possible for parishioners to contribute to our parish.
There are now two new ways of cashless giving

with the machine,
