SUMMER READING GROUP 2025

Join us on a gentle journey of reflection and sharing through the summer focusing on Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe’s book “Surprised by Hope” which shines a fresh light on how to be a missionary,

Synodal church in our crucified world.  This group is a follow on from the week of guided  prayer,

“Listening from the Heart” and is a prelude to “Spiritual Conversion: Introduction to accompaniment”.  Please contact the Mission and Formation Team at the Hallam pastoral centre to register: email: formation-mission@hallam-diocese.com or phone 01142 256 6410

LOYOLA CERTIFICATE IN PASTORAL MINISTRY:

During the past year participants in the Loyola Certificate in Pastoral Ministry have been meeting together to consider how they can develop a range of pastoral ministries in the diocese. It is opportune that during this time we have been encouraged by Pope Francis to walk together in a synodal way. Pope Leo is also encouraging us to continue this journey…to be a synodal Church, a Church that moves forward, a Church that always seeks peace, that always seeks charity, that always seeks to be close above all to those who are suffering” (First Blessing, 8 May 2025).  This seems to be a good opportunity to expand this group and invite others who have already been involved in the synodal journey, and those who want to become involved.

If you are interested, please get in touch with Fionnuala or Kevan in the Formation and Mission team and come along to the next meeting, which will be held at the Pastoral Centre and on Zoom, on Friday 7 November 7:00-8:30pm. In the meantime, we recommend that anyone who is interested takes the 4 week School for Synodality Course which is available on their youtube page: https://www.youtube.com/@School-for-Synodality

DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION (Schools Commissioner):

Bishop Ralph Heskett and the Trustees are seeking to appoint a full time Director of Education to continue to promote high quality, authentically Catholic education.  The successful candidate will support all schools of the diocese, whilst delivering the strategic vision to create two Catholic Multi-Academy Trusts in Hallam.

For more detail please contact schools@hallam-diocese.com.  The closing date is Thursday 31st July.

LIVE SIMPLY JULY:

Help to protect our oceans by reducing plastic, choosing sustainable fish and educate and inspire yourself and your family and friends by watching the film Ocean by David Attenborough

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR SURVIVORS OF ABUSE:  This rescheduled  service of love  and prayers will be led by Bishop Ralph Haskett at St. Theresa's Parish Hall on the new date of  Tuesday 10th September at 7.00pm. This is a service of love, prayer and reflection and we are all  welcome to join together as an active demonstration of our love and support for all survivors of abuse.

DIGITAL GIVING:

Hopefully you have seen the credit card reader which has recently been installed at the back of St Joseph’s church. Sadly there was a small deficit last year in our parish funds and therefore it needs to be as easy as possible for parishioners to contribute to our parish.

There are now two new ways of cashless giving

      1.    It’s very easy to use the card reader at the back of church, clear instructions are with the machine,

OR

      2.    You can use the QR code in church and on the website, just scan the code and follow the simple instructions
