Advent Calendar 2021 (Year C) – Daily Gospel Extract

28th November First Sunday of Advent, Year C “Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.”

29th November When Jesus entered Capernaum a centurion came up and appealed to him. When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.”

30th November As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

1st December Great crowds came to him, having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed and the mute and he cured them. They all ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over, seven baskets full.

2nd December Jesus said to his disciples: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.”

3rd December As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out, “Son of David, have pity on us!” Then he touched their eyes and said, “Let it be done for you according to your faith.” And their eyes were opened.

4th December As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”

5th December

Second Sunday of Advent John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the desert: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.”

6th December And some men brought on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed; But not finding a way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on the stretcher through the tiles in front of Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “As for you, your sins are forgiven.”

7th December Jesus said to his disciples: “What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray.”

8th December The Immaculate Conception Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.”

9th December Jesus said to the crowds: “Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

10th December For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said, “He is possessed by a demon.” The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said, “Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.”’

11th December Jesus said to his disciples: “But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

12th December

Third Sunday of Advent John answered them all, saying, “I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

13th December When Jesus had come into the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people approached him as he was teaching and said, “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?”

14th December Which of the two did his father’s will?” They answered, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the Kingdom of God before you.”

15th December “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.”

16th December This is the one about whom Scripture says: Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you. He will prepare your way before you.

17th December The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham became the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers

18th December This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.

19th December

Fourth Sunday of Advent When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.

20th December The angel said, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the most high will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.”

21st December Elizabeth said; “Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”

22nd December Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then returned to her home.

23rd December When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son. Her neighbours and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.

24th December You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way, to give his people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins

25th December For today in the city of David a saviour has been born for you who is Christ and Lord.
