MARRIAGE PREPARATION: We are appealing for some married couples to come forward to answer our call to this ministry preparing couples for their marriage by facilitating the Hallam Diocese marriage preparation course – Preparing for a Lifetime Together.

What sort of couple would be suitable for this ministry? Ordinary married couples who are willing to give some time to sharing their experience and their love with engaged couples, warm and welcoming personalities. We will provide training in understanding and presenting the course and continuous support, especially in the initial stages. Do not think you need to have a perfect marriage, they don’t exist. It is not necessary for both partners to be Catholics, provided the non-Catholic partner understands the church’s beliefs about marriage and can promote them to the engaged couples.

If you do think this ministry might be right for you, please get in touch. Our email address is janeandcharles@googlemail.com. We are going to have an information evening via Zoom. You are not committing yourselves by joining this meeting, but it might help you decide if you want to take part in the training. Even that does not commit you. The training will help to find out what delivering the course would entail. You could then decide if this is the ministry to which the Holy Spirit is calling you.

The information evening will take place on 2 December 2022 at 19.00 – 20.00 via Zoom. We will send a Zoom link to those who get in touch.

The training course will start early in 2023.- Jane & Charles Perryman

CONTINENTAL STAGE OF THE SYNOD: You may have recently heard that the Vatican has produced a document to help us in the next stage of the synod. Pope Francis asks us to continue with the Synodal journey here in the diocese firstly by prayerfully reading the document and then focusing on 3 questions: what resonates for you in the Document of the Continental Stage, what difficulties need to be addressed, and what are the priorities and calls to action? There are a few copies available in the parish or it can be accessed here https://www.synod.va/content/dam/synod/common/phases/continental-stage/dcs/Documento-Tappa-Continentale-EN.pdf. Having read it you might want to contribute to the diocesan discernment of our response to these questions by joining a meeting on

1 December 7:00-8:30 pm The meeting will be held both in person and virtually. To help with our planning participants will need to book on the Formation and Mission Eventbrite page here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/hallam-formation-and-mission-46212155433

And choose if they want to attend virtually or in person.

NEWS FROM ST WILFRID’S:

Reverse Advent Calendar: With only a month to go before Advent, our 2022 Reverse Advent Calendar continues to focus on the value of giving something to those in need at Christmas, rather than, as with traditional Advent Calendars the focus on receiving.

Last year broke all records with the number of completed calendars and gifts/donations we received. With demand and need already increasing this winter and the food parcels and meals we provide being in higher demand, we are asking for your ongoing support and help. The Reverse Advent Calendar enables our fantastic supporters to collect specific items that will make a real difference to our clients and those we help.

You can start it at any time and don’t have to collect all the items. If you are unable to collect some or all of the things, please feel free to make a small donation instead. A 20p donation covers the cost of a mug of tea or coffee.

Once completed, please drop off your collection, after 4th January. The full-size Reverse Advent Calendar can also be downloaded by clicking on the link on our website.

Volunteers: Bev Kershaw, our Volunteer and Events Coordinator, is always on the lookout for new people to join our excellent team of volunteers. Many of our volunteers have contacted us intitally after information has being given out in parishes and we would really like to hear from anyone who thinks they could give up a few hours a week to help. Please share the poster with anyone you think might be interested.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY: We are looking to reinstate the Children’s Liturgy on a Sunday Mass initially for the last Sunday of each month and then depending on numbers to increase in the future. We are desperately seeking help from volunteers to run the sessions and also someone to co-ordinate the group. Pre-covid we had a good number of valued volunteers and would welcome them back and new parishioners to the group. If you would like to join us or want to know more information please contact Alison Bergomi via either email alisonbergomi@hotmail.co.uk or 07977341619. Safeguarding paperwork is required to be completed before the sessions start so a prompt reply would be appreciated.
